2013

Well, here it goes again.  I can't believe I haven't blogged in over a year...And what a great year it was!  I FINALLY booked Grey's Anatomy.  A small part but with 2 of my favorite actors from the show.  It was a dream come true...I'll talk more about that after it airs, (in Feb.) I don't want to give anything away about the episode :-)

I am having quite the run playing a Nurse.  I've done 3 films now where I've played a Nurse.  I played a Nurse on NBC's Go On, I played a Nurse on Grey's Anatomy, I'm auditioning for a Nurse on Monday for another Network show.  Who knew?

I posted this on Facebook but I'll repeat it here...I'm getting seen for about 10% of what I'm being submitted for and booking about 17% of what I audition for. I don't know if those are good or bad numbers, but I know I want to work to raise them.  People tell me not to be so analytical about my art...to which I say, I'm not being analytic about my art!  I'm being analytical about my business.  Getting work as an actor IS a numbers game, and what a lot of actors don't realize is JUST GETTING IN THE ROOM is a huge win.  We're about to release another episode of the Webseries "Good Job, Thanks!" this week, and Gary Marsh, owner of Breakdown Services is making an appearance in the episode.  So while he was on set I bent his ear about Breakdowns and numbers, etc.  He was explaining how for every role released (even the one liners) there are usually 1200-2500 submissions made.  So if you're getting chosen to come in and read for a part, you've already made the cut from a LARGE number of people!  Have fun and bring your best into the room and then just walk away!

I auditioned for a Christopher Guest project a few months ago...went in and did my thing and went on with my life.  2 months later, I was called back to have a casual meeting with Christopher and Jim Piddock...It was so awesome.  I got to chat with them about the role and what was happening and how it will all go down...It was great!  I mean Christopher Guest is one of my favorite filmmakers.  Just to be considered in his "world" was just such an honor for me.  But I digress...  My point is, there's room for everybody.  If you stick around and continue to grow and nurture your talent and connections and relationships, there's room for everybody.  If you're old or young or fat or thin -- There's room for everybody.
